Soft consonants
We pronounce C like ts in bats, dz is like ds in rods, j is like y in yes.

Dz medzi, cudzí, prichádza
J ja, Ján, moje, ahoj
Č,š,ž and dž are like English chin, shin,vision and juice.
Č čaká, reč, Angličan
Š široký, špinavý, píšeš
Ž žena, môžeš, žiletka
Dž džús, džem, hádže
Ď, ť and ň is fairly close in pronunciation to British English duty, tune, new.
Ď ďakujem, maďarský
Ť ťava, byť, mať, ťahať
Ň ňou, spálňa, kaviareň
Ľ is fairly close to el sound in English value as pronounced valyoo but more subtly or gently pronounced, without the English y sound following the ľ
Ľ ľud, veľa, kľúč, žiaľ
